Pittman, the ex-Outlaw from Owasso, Oklahoma, had won just about everywhere else in Pennsylvania this year, but scored his first victory of the season at Williams Grove Friday night, and it was also the first ever Grove win for his car owner, Michael Heffner. Pittman’s sixth career Williams Grove triumph was worth $10,000. Greg Hodnett, who started fifth, took second place from Smith on lap five and began to chase the leader, but had to deal with Don Kreitz, who got by Smith on lap six. With Hodnett running the outside and Kreitz the bottom they dueled for second place until Kreitz took over on lap fourteen, While the battle for second was raging Pittman had opened a substantial margin, but Kreitz immediately began to run him down. Pittman gave up his high line on the restart, went to the bottom and began to get away from Kreitz. Hodnett took back second place on lap 26, but was unable to challenge Pittman, who won by a margin of 1.56 seconds. Hodnett was second with Kreitz third. Speed Week point leader Alan Krimes was fourth and Lance Dewease came from the 12th starting position to finish fifth. Mark Smith, S. Smith, Chad Layton, Curt Michael and Mike Wagner finished in positions six through ten respectively. Krimes set fast time in qualifications with a lap of 17.477 seconds, Heats for the 30 sprint cars were won by Pittman, Hodnett and Layton. Justin Henderson claimed the B-main.
